Charles Wilson follows up his BMA nominated Delmark album If Heartaches Were Nickels with Troubled Child his first release on Severn. The album weaves between tunes such as the Sam Dees penned title track, Bobby Bland’s “Where My Baby Went,” the late Little Milton (Charles’ uncle) and Denise LaSalle’s “Somebody’s Tears,” the Oakland based Natural Four’s “It’s Love That Really Counts,” Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” and two originals written by bassist and co-producer Steve Gomes. ‘Monster’ Mike Welch provides stellar guitar work and the Severn House Band provides Charles with a solid canvas for his edgy, yet smooth, vocals.
LINER NOTES
I want to thank my producers David Earl, for believing in me, and Steve Gomes for writing me such great songs.
I want to thank Jude Finnell for being my big sister and big mama for all Severn’s artists. Thanks go to Willie Henderson who has known me since I was a child. He is one of the greatest soul arrangers who has ever lived.
